My mom was taken ill last year and I supported her and took care of her while she recovered. I also made some new friends of my mom's. Which has helped me understand the elderly and the importance of autonomy
I help my mom with every day tasks like shopping and more recently a new kitchen has to be fitted. She will stay with me; while the work goes on. So her anxiety is minimal.
I have worked in an elderly residential care homes previously. Also I worked with agencies. The care I can give to the elderly is cooking and tidying and reading with them. Outdoor activities just getting out in the fresh air. Medical appointments or shopping.
My qualities are I'm caring and like a chat. Getting the clients involved in normal everyday tasks. As my mom talks herself out of doing things. So encouragement and reassurance that you can do this is vital. To her mental wellbeing.
