I have experience as a home carer, home help and 24/7 support worker, I had a diverse role working with service users with learning disabilities; mental illnesses; physical disabilities, challenging behaviours or chronic illnesses. This required special training for various scenarios and service user requirements, Such as; medication management, crisis prevention intervention, dementia skills or palliative care.
I entered various situations daily and had to be prepared for anything that can emerge, following health and safety, SSSC and person centred planning in every situation. Gaining my SVQ three in health and social care I'm has assisted in ensuring I deliver an extremely high standard of care and support to every individual I am in contact with. I assist with daily living needs, such as personal care, medication administration, using apparatus for moving and handling, epilepsy care and peg feeding, whilst preserving their dignity and promoting independence. I am involved in risk assessing, this has enabled me to expand organisational and health and safety awareness skills. I work independently or in a multiple support worker situation. Working in a team environment has enabled me to develop my communication and organisational skills as we have regular changeovers and meetings to ensure all relevant information is passed on and the delivery of high standards of support and care are maintained at all times. Being a support worker and in close contact with service users has allowed me to gain the trust of service users and the ability to communicate effectively with new service users and their relatives.
