As a recently qualified Health and Social Care student, I have both knowledge and experience in delivery of care. Whilst my studies educated me regarding the methods and approaches to apply, the course also enabled me to obtain invaluable hands on experience with the elderly at a local care home. This allowed me to engage with residents, befriending them to gradually establish a relationship. Similarly, I was able to assist with duties such as maintenance and feeding. Closer to home, I was able to assist my Nan during her recent bout of Cancer where she was restricted in terms of mobility and required similar care. Ways in which I helped her were keeping up her morale, carrying out cleaning duties around the home and by helping prepare her meals given that her oven was inaccessible during the period of her illness. It gives me great pride and purpose being able to offer some assistance to those in need and helping to improve their quality of life in some way.
