My name is Amy, I'm 18 years old and I am studying Nursing at the University of York. I have previously worked as a home health care assistant. In this role, I provided Care for adults in their own homes. One of my main focuses was helping Clients maintain their independence. I would do this by giving choices where possible and ensuring the care I provided was specifically tailored to each individual. Furthermore, Respecting the decisions clients made with regards to things such as what they eat and what they wear, was essential. Another important part of my role was assisting personal care. This was a key part of client wellbeing and whilst being given it was vital to ensure client dignity and privacy. Preparing meals and promoting, where possible, a balanced diet as well as promoting and monitoring fluid intake was another key part of my role. Additionally, I would on occasion take clients out, for walks or short drives, which they found very enjoyable. Finally, administering medication and making clear and concise records and evaluations of each visit were tasks which required scrupulous care and attention. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in this job and whilst challenging, was immensely rewarding. I have also worked as a volunteer at elderly residents home. Here, I would help with activities, such as crafts, musical sing-a-long sessions and day trips for the residents.
