I play the guitar, at basic level but my dad and my Uncle enjoyed our sing songs. I took my dad out in his wheelchair on a daily basis. He was well known and respected in our local community. My dad was a Chelsea Pensioner but had to come home to us because he had dementia. We were glad to have him home. I feel a sense of purpose when I spend time with elderly people and treat them with the utmost respect and kindness which is what they deserve. I feel happy and relaxed in the company of elderly people and a sense of humour helps. I have experience of working with children and young adults with special needs. I was a classroom assistant at The Royal Blind School in Edinburgh and gained valuable experience during my time there. My dad spent his final days in a Care home close to where I lived and I visited daily and I used to play my guitar and sing to the residents. We formed a lovely relationship. The staff were grateful and extended a warm welcome to myself and my family at all times. I love being with people who need to be cared for.

I am 59 years of age with life experience behind me, I have been married for 36 years, I am a mother to two sons and grandmother to two granddaughters. I am a qualified nursery nurse and have cared for children for many years. I looked after my dad in the family home since my mum died in 1995 and more recently, my elderly uncle who lived in sheltered housing. My dad and my uncle qualified for social care but wouldn’t accept it so I cared for them, I cleaned, cooked and spent valuable time with them and would treat other people in need of care in the same way.
