Zoe, teacher English in Nunhead SE15

I have 3 years experience teaching English as a foreign language in China. Between my first and second year in China, I also taught online to children and young people in China and Taiwan. Whilst in my second year in China, I adapted to teaching online, due to Covid-19. As I had previous experience of online teaching, I assisted my colleagues and provided training for teaching young learners online.

Within my various TEFL positions I have planned lessons and curriculums, provided parents with oral and written feedback and I have conducted and marked assessments. I have used different teaching materials including interactive and non interactive white boards.

I wrote the curriculum for the international class in Fthenakis Kindergarten, for a mixed age and ability group. I was able to take into account each of the student’s skills, abilities and difficulties and I created a fun and engaging learning environment. Being a new kindergarten, I had the opportunity to help with the growth working alongside a mostly small Chinese team.

At i2, I completed the Foreign Academic Management training, this included; setting standards, managing effective meetings, cultural working relationships, observations and action plans. I then went on to carry out observations on other foreign teachers. I also carried out Demo classes, Project Based Learning classes and marketing activities.

Prior to TEFL, I have worked in London with young people and adults within the community, in education, within criminal justice and youth projects. As my working career has been working in the public and voluntary sectors, I am confident in communicating with people at all levels. I started as a face to face youth worker and play worker and worked up to management. I then gained experience specifically with children, young people and adults with special educational needs and disabilities.
