My name is Beth and I am nineteen years old. I am in my first year of adult nursing at Edinburgh Napier University. I am looking for a job focusing on care of the elderly at the weekends and in the evenings.
I am enthusiastic, kind, caring, and approachable with excellent listening skills and would love an opportunity to assist the elderly with activities such as shopping, personal care, cleaning and tidying or even just to be a companion for an elderly person.
I have gained my experience of caring the elderly through my university course.
I have just recently completed my first practice placement in a care home. During this placement I was mainly involved in assisting the residents with personal care. I was able to assist people with eating, bathing and getting dressed. During this placement I learned a lot about general care of the elderly, this has helped to prepare me for my further practice placements and career as a nurse. Due to the fact this was my first practice placement I was able to spend time talking with the residents and socialising with them. I enjoyed this very much as I felt the people that I spoke with appreciate the fact that I was able to take time to sit and listen to them.
My further experience with the elderly is involving my grandmother who lives with Alzheimer’s disease. She has been living with Alzheimer’s for several years now and I am involved largely with parts of her care.
I am understanding, compassionate and most of all caring and would love an experience to help an older person to have the highest quality of life possible.
