I have experience of looking after several elderly relatives over the past years. My own mother who had cancer and required help with shopping, paperwork and ensuring her house ran smoothly for her. She also needed to feel loved and valued and to talk a lot about what was happening to her.
My mother in law who suffered from Alzheimer's, she lived with my family for quite a long time before going into care. She needed help with most things and also lots of patience and compassion.
I have also cared for an elderly aunt who was widowed suddenly and was quite lost. She was partially blind and her husband had done most of everything for her.
My qualities are both practical and empathetic. I do what needs to be done in regards to shopping, helping with paperwork, preparing a light lunch etc. I am also a good listener and will spend time having conversations about anything, but also listening for signs of worry or
upsets. It is only by talking that these issues come to the surface.
I would be putting fuel in my car for shopping and errands.
