My interest in dance developed young as I dedicated myself to dancing outside of school and college, completing a series of B.A.T.D examinations in Tap, Modern and Jazz dance achieving highly in every examination. As a result I competed in scholarships traveling to new destinations including Scotland and Doncaster where I recently achieved 'Best Potential in Modern Dance', 2013. I then went on to take an Associate Examination in Modern Dance which qualifies me to teach dance to all levels which I passed at 'Highly Commended'. This enhanced my desire to achieve a carrier in this field.
I have also taken part at British Championship level with Tap, Modern and Ballet Dance. Achieving numerous semi-finals and finals, including second in 'The All England Championships' held in Manchester, 2013. Competing has helped me experience as I can now work under high pressures.
For 7 years I volunteered as a Dance teacher's assistant, guiding children from the ages of 6 to 16 in their dancing by developing and delivering a range of classes. In order to successfully assist I recognized that it was necessary to adapt my teaching to the age of the child, using different techniques and terminology. Patience was required when teaching the chorography which is an important skill to possess for any Dancer and so strengthened my resilience.
Teaching musical theatre group at 'Applause Musical Theatre Group' has helped me work with more children who were outside my dancing studio, enabling me to incorporate my teaching skills to new beginners. This required a lot of responsibility and enthusiasm, as I had to successfully teach them routines and songs and bring them outside of their comfort zone. However due to techniques with teaching children I knew I would excel in this task.
Dancing with arranged professionals has further fulfilled my desire in dance as I have learned a variety of techniques when in workshops and summer schools. So far, I have gained lots of knowledge in dance, however to further follow and achieve my ambitions by being a part of this course and take advantage of the great opportunities it will give me.
