Presentation

Hello all!

My name is Laura, I'm 23 and originate from Leeds (with the consequent accent). I moved to Lincoln in 2014 to study teacher training at Bishop Grossteste University, a fantastic teaching institute. I graduated with a BA in Primary Education in 2017 and was granted Qualified Teacher Status. I was very lucky to find a job immediately after graduating, working for a year in KS1 and teaching my own class. It was an amazing experience and taught me a great deal; mainly about how much I enjoy working with children!

Currently, I am taking a step back from full time teaching and am working as a supply teacher. This allows me more time during the week. However, I am very much a person who enjoys working and so am looking to use my time more effectively.

From teaching, I know full well that not all children are the same and enter into every teaching/caring role with a fresh mindset! I'm very encouraging and positive, with a smile for everyone! Whilst it's important that children are continually developing, I know that everyone progresses differently and work to fit my expectations around the individual. I am completely non-judgemental as I know that lives don't fit into neat little boxes, so I am more than happy to adapt to any situation! With that in mind, I am totally willing to do some homework of my own to understand any situation a little better, if needed.

I know that learning isn't fun for a lot of young people, so I give my students multiple different activities in sessions to keep their brains engaged. If one doesn't work out, then we move on. For young learners, I have found that it is often beneficial to address more than one subject in an hour, such as maths and literacy, to keep them active. However, again, this may not work for different learners and as such I will be happy to change this for you.

To me, learning is very much a two-way street. If a student doesn't want to learn, then that creates a discussion point for us and anybody involved. I personalise all of my sessions for the individual, so if something doesn't work for them, we try something else. However, I do require some dedication from learners. I will make clear my expectations from the first session so that they can decide if I will be a good tutor for them or not.
